Reasons for changing the definition from to rent for use to to rent (from somebody)

1. "use" is implicit in the notion of renting. If you pay rent money something, you have the right to use it, and 99% of the time, you actually do use it.

2. Precisely for that reason, "rent for use" is an unnatural turn of phrase. People don't say "I rented a car for use."

3. Including "for use" doesn't help to distinguish between 'renting to sb' and 'renting from sb' (I believe 租用 is the latter, and not the former.)

4. "to rent for use" could be taken to mean "hand over some rent money for the purpose of using the item later." (i.e., something you would do before using the item). But 租用 is more like "rent AND use". (租借使用他人的房地或其他實物) [1]
