Origin of emoji

[edit]

For a long time it was considered that emoji "originated in Japanese telephony" but this has recently been proven incorrect, with my uncovering of earlier digital emoji in pocket computers and word processors. I don't propose citing my blog post, but rather using the same cites I link within it. https://blog.gingerbeardman.com/2024/05/10/emoji-history-the-missing-years/ thoughts appreciated. @Flicky1984 You'd be better off raising this at the WT:Etymology scriptorium. We tend to centralise discussions, as the talkpages for specific terms are rarely watched by many people, so a lot more people will see it there. Theknightwho (talk) 17:59, 30 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't have the energy for that, but thanks. Flicky1984 (talk) 00:01, 31 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Flicky1984 I can move this thread there, if you like? Theknightwho (talk) 02:08, 31 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
