Nakhi to Naxi

I recommend changing "Nakhi" back to "Naxi." A Google search (minus Wikipedia hits) shows a massive weight toward the latter spelling (Naxi), in English. 24.29.228.33 16:35, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

I recommend raising this issue at w:Talk:Nakhi#Nakhi_vs._Naxi. I think we should use Wikipedia as the baseline, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't change Wikipedia when necessary (if that makes any sense). If the Wikipedia experts on this topic decide that Naxi is the more appropriate English spelling, then Wiktionary should follow suit. On the other hand, you could simply include both spellings in the Wiktionary definition. -- A-cai 17:01, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

They're good points. For example, the Yaqui call themselves "Yoeme" and the Cherokee call themselves "Ani'yunwiah" or "Tsalagi," but the weight of published literature means that we keep, for the article titles, the best known and widely used names, even if they're not the actual names used by the peoples themselves. In the case of Nakhi, I think an overzealous editor changed the name out of respect for the people themselves, even though "Naxi" is the much more widely used spelling. 24.29.228.33 17:21, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
