Welsh pronunciation[edit]

Could someone please comment on the southern Welsh pronunciation of the word «Aberystwyth»? And for that matter, the pronunciation of the river’s name itself (Ystwyth). I see that there are two phonemic and phonetic transcriptions given for the southern variety, with one having a diphthong [-ʊi̯-], while the other realising <w> as a consonant, and so not forming a diphthong with the next vowel <y>. Do both pronunciations occur in the spoken language? Is one of them more common than the other?
