Ethymology[edit]

So many toponymes are derived from swamps. If there were so many swamps in old ages, a swamp was no attraction, then. Furthermore I think, people would have named their settlings after reasons to settle there: Beechwood (DE: Buchholz) for instance marked good soil, mild climate, and good timber; Beaverlodge, often used in North America, marked a site by a river never falling dry.
I've looked in dictionaries of Czech and Polish and found berla "crutch", "crook", "sceptre" – there could have been a ford, where Spree river could be crossed by herders.--91.55.124.52 18:18, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

By the way there is also Bellin as a location and surname and in street names, and Ländchen Bellin and Fehrbellin which is "ferry Bellin". (die „Bellinsche Fähre“). Wondering if its related. Mutante 11:31, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
