etymology of Cory[edit]

The definition lines say this is "derived from the surname" but don't list a surname sense. They also contradict the Etymology section, which cites older given names; and both contradict varius "baby name" Web sites, which give another etymology altogether.​—msh210 19:10, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody knows what the name originally meant, either in Old Norse or Irish, so you can read imaginative explanations in baby name websites. As if it really mattered what a name "means" — the whole idea of a name is that it doesn't mean anything---Makaokalani 13:33, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
