This was tagged as "Roman Catholicism", which is incorrect. The word is rarely used among Catholics. Catholic doctrine (I don't know right now where exactly) even stresses that "Theotokos" or "Gottesgebärerin" is a misleading term, since it may reduce Mary's role to giving birth when she is really and fully the mother of the Son of God.
