Etymology Inconsistencies

[edit]

The current etymology section doesn't really explain why there are variations in the vowel and the coda of (H)ūd-, and why the German form doesn't match the adjective 'laut'. I think is explained quite well by the linked dictionary entry in the EWAia.

Any objections to changing the etymology section from

"... *Hlūdawīg. The first element is (h)lūt ..."

to something like

"... *Hluþawīg. The first element is *hluþa-, a secondary form of (h)lūd " Guy1524 (talk) 09:50, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
