3rd word
[edit]to match May-September romance I think we should have a May-December romance page. This phrase is used at http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MayDecemberRomance for example. ScratchMarshall (talk) 02:40, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
An Old Man Would Be Wooing
[edit]According to Barry Popik the phrase comes from an older song, An Old Man Would Be Wooing. He's got some quotes of the phrase that are significantly older than the song mentioned in our current etymology. Simplificationalizer (talk) 23:58, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
- Adding to this to say that the phrase "marry in May, repent in December" appears in Joyce's Ulysses with similar meaning, and predates the current etymology given. Fredsilsoe (talk) 19:09, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
