The German word "Mitgefühl" means compassion, not empathy. "Mitleid" is frequently but wrongly used as a synonym. Empathy has it's own German word "Empathie" which is a synonym of "Einfühlungsvermögen" but neither of "Mitgefühl" nor "Mitleid". None of them should not be listed as synonyms here.
