Wow, this has to be one of the most recent "archaic" words -- makes me feel soooo oooolllldddd (born 1954). I raise it because of my vexation at its being considered offensive now by so many, when it was the polite & sophisticated word as I was growing up. The euphemism-dysphemism cycle for "black" as a race is a really rapid one. 216.179.3.108 23:06, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, "archaic" might be overdoing it; I think it's more "dated". But yes, if you use it, you're old. <teeny-bopper-voice>Sheesh, you're like, almost as old as my parents!</teeny-bopper-voice> :-) —RuakhTALK 04:24, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Definition[edit]

The definition says: "A person with black or dark brown skin." Shouldn't it also say that the person is of African descent? Jiiimbooh 18:09, 30 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Usage Notes[edit]

@Mlgc1998 Usage notes is used to explain how to use the word from a native person's perspective, not explain how a foreigner would view the word. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 15:20, 19 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
