Showcase Images?

[edit]

Regarding @The Editor's Apprentice's edit on May 24 (not sure if there's a convention for linking to a specific edit, sorry). For context, I've been in the TF community for years, so I'm not saying this from a place of judgement:

(1) Is it really necessary to include an example at all? I'm not against it per se, but we don't have images for other terms for other adjacent fandoms with plenty of potential SFW examples, e.g. TG (which doesn't even seem to have a related entry), yuri, yaoi, Rule 63, etc. etc, which are all certainly as big if not bigger than the tf community.

(2) If we are going to include some examples, are these really the best ones to include? Being (largely) a subset of the furry fandom, the tf community is... generally not particularly well-respected outside of adjacent spaces, and - meaning no disrespect to the original artist of these pieces - there are plenty of examples of Wikimedia-appropriate TF art that would give an impression of a more established art community to someone outside the fandom. Hello @Asticky, I appreciate that you're choosing not to approach this from a place of judgement.
To your first point, I would argue no edit on Wiktionary can really be said to "necessary". A better way of the evaluating things in my opinion would be in terms of the utility to the dictionary's readers. In my opinion, having an example image is useful in helping the reader understand what TF looks like in practice. You're right that many other adjacent terms don't have example images, but to my understanding that is downstream of the fact that most Wiktionary entries lack images rather than part of a specific pattern for terms like yaoi, Rule 63, etc.
In terms of what images to include as examples, I am open to suggestions for alternatives and intrigued by your statement that there are plenty of examples of Wikimedia-appropriate TF art. In particular, I am curious as to where there might be a collection of transformation art that meets Commons' requirement of allowing reuse for any purpose and derivative artworks as I've personally been unsuccessful. More specifically, while searching DeviantArt (for example with this search) I only found a few options and on FurAffinity most of the search results (as from this search) seemed to have "no commercial use" provisions.
Lastly, to your question about linking to a specific edit, there's no need to apologize. In the future you can use links like [[Special:PermaLink/79414698]], where the final number comes from the URL of the edit.
Take care. —The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 23:52, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
