Sum of parts?

[edit]

@Ioaxxere: The OED includes what you have added as the new sense 1 but I left it out because it seems sum-of-parts. Are you sure we should add it? — Sgconlaw (talk) 22:23, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Well the SOP rules don't apply to individual senses (hence {{&lit}}). But the main reason I added it is because it feels weird to have a figurative sense and not the literal sense it's based off of. Ioaxxere (talk) 22:41, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ioaxxere: the literal sense was explained in the etymology. It’s akin to an entry like Wall Street where we don’t have a “street in New York” sense (which is explained in the etymology section), but just provide the figurative sense. — Sgconlaw (talk) 03:24, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think this is worth raising for discussion at the Beer Parlour. — Sgconlaw (talk) 06:51, 8 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
