Talk:adjectival
Pronunciation
[edit]The audio pronunciation says [ˌædʒɪkˈtiːvəl], but this seemed doubtful to me. After looking it up elsewhere, i put in [ˌædʒɪkˈtaɪvəl], but Opiaterein overwrote it with [ˌædˈʒɛktɪvəl]. I find it strange that this corrected pronunciation puts [d] and [ʒ] in separate syllables like it's spoken "ad-zhectival". Anyhow, i have not seen this attested. Two entries at Dictionary.com say /ˌædʒɪkˈtaɪvəl/ and the other says Ad`jec*ti"val. Maybe this attests it, i can't really tell without a pronunciation key, but i believe the <j> here would stand for [dʒ]. And who know's what `, * and " are supposed to do. My old Webster's New World Dictionary says /ˌædʒɪkˈtaɪvəl/ and /ˈædʒɪktɪvəl/, so i'm getting the feeling that nobody's sure how to say this. --Leif Runenritzer 07:05, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- I think I've fixed this now. Certainly the stress is normally on the penultimate syllable. Ƿidsiþ 08:03, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
