The Danube river has been a a primary transportation artery connecting Slovakia & the Austrio/Hungarian Empire to Germany, the Nederlands & the north sea. It would seem likely that there is some connection.

[Mid-18th century. Probably blend of aha + hoy < Middle Dutch hoei "barge, ship"]
