@Harry Audus, @Surjection: in response to your quote request on this page, I transferred a quotation from a novel I was reading (in fact I navigated here from the look-up from that book). I hope this is satifactory, though it's lamentable that it isn't an "authoratative dictionary" or an exceptionally classy work to lend credibility to the acceptance of this term.
