Hi,

kindly explain me why allocentrism can stay in the italian version and not on the english one. Tx Fabio

  • Perhaps the Italian sysops aren't doing their job properly. This word does not seem to have entered the English language yet, and you can't define something as the opposite of something else. If you want to add it again, you need to provide proper references, not another wiki. SemperBlotto 09:32, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • In the current New Yorker magazine, May 11, 2009, article "Brain Games", p.76. which is a profile of the neurologist Vilayanur S. Ramachandran, a quote from him uses 'allocentric' and in fact defines it. On page 87:
One of the theories we put forward ... is that the mirror-neuron system is used for modelling someone else's behavior, putting yourself in another person's shoes, looking at the world from another person's point of view. This is called an allocentric view of the world, as opposed to the egocentric view. So I made the suggestion that at some point in evolution this system turned back and allowed you to create an allocentric view of yourself. This is, I claim, the dawn of self-awareness.
