"a heavy object to prevent a boat from moving"

A 16 inch artillery shell is a heavy object and when hit it does prevent most boats from moving (except maybe in the downward direction, a.k.a. sinking). Joking aside, attaching itself to the sea-bottom sediment is an important property of anchors.

anchoring (psychology) ?[edit]

What about adding the category of "anchoring" in psychology/economy?

You hear your neighbour's house could be worth X. Your own house must be worth the same (it is even nicer). You want to sell it for X, but the market situation has changed, so you will not receive X any longer, but you are still "anchored" to the valuation of X and do not want to sell below that value.
