Autonomian: an entity that operates under self-control. Autonomianism: an argument that all human beings, for example, operate under self-control with free will (or autonomy). The prefix, Auto-, from the Greek meaning self and the suffix, nomo-, meaning controlled by. An autonomianist then refers to any person who subscribes to autonomianism. The antonym of autonoian would be allonomian, that which operates under control from without by physical or social environmental events for example. B. F. Skinner would then be considered an allonomianist, having subscribed to the agrument that human behavior, while also influenced by internal events, was shaped and maintained by its environmentally determined consequences. An allonomianist would argue that nothing is truely autonomian in that all phenomena are a result of interactions between events. An allonomianist might also insist that we live in an autonomianist or autonomianized culture that is premised on the validity of the autonomianist argument, or that anyone who subscribes to the autonomianist argument has a behavior disorder that might be called "autonomania".
