I was told this is an error, that the Bosworth-Toller dictionary mistakes blíþe (which begat today's blithe) for being a descendant of biliþją.

I was shown a passage from Etymologisches Wörterbuch des Althochdeutschen which upholds this claim.

I think it is worth keeping the entry as a point of reference for dissuading further misuse of this term, and likewise restoring the page for færbu. These ghost words are found in a reputable dictionary and have been since misused repeatedly in the public sphere, as can be verified by searching for them on Google or another search engine. I concur that the færbu page should be reinstated. If people search for it and find nothing, they will assume that Wiktionary simply does not have the entry yet. Byrhtnoð (talk) 21:33, 2 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
