Etymology[edit]
From Hebrew בִּימָה (bimá), ultimately from Ancient Greek βῆμα (bêma).
It might be noted (in the article) that Marcus Jastrow in his Hebrew and Aramaic dictionary (page 162) rejects that derivation from Greek. See his proof(s) there.

Definition[edit]
(Judaism) The raised platform in the front of a synagogue where the rabbi stands.
That definition seems highly questionable. A better definition would be:
(Judaism) In a synagogue, the raised platform where the Torah is read.
