Confused about chamfers[edit]

hey I'm kind of confused about chamfers. I know what a fillet is but it seems to me that it would be impractical to have the reverse of that in woodworking because the joint would be weaker and would not be able to support much weight... Please enlighten me.

Alex

here is a link to a picture of what I envision a chamfer to be. It is more than likely to be wrong, so don't blast me with CAD vocabulary a beginner wouldn't understand.

See w:chamfer. A fillet rounds an inside corner (whether a joint or not). A chamfer bevels or rounds an outside corner, not a joint. In some cases it will increase the strength of a part vs weight. Robert Ullmann 18:15, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

How is fillet an antonym? It's not the opposite. It might fit under "see also" or "related". —DIV (1.145.42.3 10:58, 21 July 2023 (UTC))Reply
