Pronunciation[edit]

Is "collagen" pronounced with the soft "g" as in "general," or the hard "g" as in "get?" --70.129.231.218 22:42, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

It is pronounced with a "soft" g. In English, a "g" before e/i is "soft" if the word originates from a Romance language like French or Latin, but is usually "hard" if the word comes from a Germanic language like Old English or German. (Yes, German itself has a "soft" g, but it descends from Latin germanus.) --EncycloPetey 22:56, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
