Etymology[edit]

Perhaps the etymology involves mixing contrivance and trap with something also approximating "construction"? In a sort of phonemic onomatopoeia.. The word sounds like construction to become a replacement for it, but involves a contrivance that could be a trap.

Usually any device called a contraption would be a recent construction, and possibly dangerous, hence also mixing in trap, but to me it always fit the same meaning of a recent unproved and possibly dodgy construction. 86.171.183.235 09:32, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
