Etymology

I'm wondering if this is 1. from ibh(e) ie a genitive of a verbal noun of ibh, but with the initial dental bolted on from the article, or 2. from some sound change [ɣ] → [v], which I might have seen in other infrequent situations in the past, memory fails me.
