Etymology

[edit]

Isn't it more plausible for the term to be a learned borrowing from Old English rather than inherited from an unattested Middle English term? As the first uses of "evennight" go back to mid-19th c. ([1]), when a revival of linguistic purism (Anglish) was taking place. [Saviourofthe] ୨୧ 02:08, 15 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
