German Term[edit]
The german term stated as the root of flak is different from the one stated in the Wikipedia. Here it is Fliegerabwehrkanone , Wikipedia states, in the flak diambiguation page and the Anti-aircraft warfare page it as Flugabwehrkanone.
As I also mentioned on the Wikipedia:Flak discussion page AFAIK it is "Flugabwehrkanone" see e.g. the Bundeswehr page on the FlakPanzer Gepard. Any similar "official" sources for "Fliegerabwehrkanone"? Plus the German Wikipedia (OK, not a source) uses Flugabwehr also.
- The contemporary Bundeswehr term is "Flugabwehr", certainly. But for the etymology the Wehrmacht use is relevant, and they may well have said "Fliegerabwehr". I can't positively confirm this, but semantically it makes more sense to say "Fliegerabwehr" (defense against planes) than "Flugabwehr" (defense against flying). Perhaps "Flugabwehr" is a later alteration (it being shorter and easier to pronounce). Again: I don't know, I'm just reasoning. 178.4.151.74 02:57, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
