Pronunciation with only one /g/ is of course very common in southern speakers; these also say "gangen" and the like. But for me as a northwesterner, "gangen" is totally out of the question. Yet I can say "gessen" in fluent casual speech when the word isn't particularly stressed. I think it's psychologically different because "gangen" lacks any prefix, while "gessen" does still have a prefix albeit a reduced one. Or in other terms, it's the same as "gantwortet" for "geantwortet", which I might also say in the same contexts. 92.218.236.161 03:06, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
