Meaningless by themselves[edit]
Many Sino-Vietnamese root words are meaningless in modern Vietnamese if they're used by themselves, or have other meanings (such as "giác" and "hữu"). Giving these definitions without noting that the word should not be used by itself is misleading. Many Latin and Greek words are root words (such as legis) in English, but they have no English definition by themselves. DHN 18:02, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- Would you recommend deleting this entry, if this word does not ever appear on its own? Otherwise, we could add a usage note to make it clear that the other term for "horn" is used in a generic sense, and that giác must always be bound to one or more other words when used in Vietnamese. 71.66.97.228 03:49, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

- Is this text, which I have added, satisfactory? I'm not sure if "root word" is the right term in English.
