someone who is better at this than i should add some discussion about etymology. the wikipaedia entry has some interesting conjectures on etymology but they dont appear either convincing or supportable.

Pornography[edit]

http://gaildines.com/2009/09/so-you-think-you-know-what-porn-is/ uses the term in a derived sense. 213.190.104.143 18:15, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Origin[edit]

The word occurs in Bored of the Rings in 1969, so it is unsupportable that it was coined two years later. Cstaffa (talk) 19:46, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The late Chemistry Teacher Howard Friedman, formerly of the FDA, claimed to have originated this word with his Brooklyn College friends at the Village Voice during the 1960s; He described a gonzo as someone who paints a floor in such a way that he ends up unable to leave the last unpainted corner. He said he was a graduate of David A. Boody IS 228.

Point of order[edit]

If a term is coined/created by an individual then the etymology they give for it is the correct one, semantically, even if the attested derivation is spurious. Facts are in conflict so one must be false. Either Cardoso didn create or his etymology is not 'spurious' aside from its not being French derived. 98.4.112.204 02:55, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
