I think so. Zaicz Gábor mentions it in his Etimológiai szótár under the article -al/-el ~ -ál/-él. Quoting: " A hosszú magánhangzós változatok a magánhangzó nyúlásával jöttek létre, pl. fonal ~ fonál. A Halotti Beszédben a halál különböző szóalakjaiban többször is előfordul." --Panda10 00:42, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
