Variant spelling -- specify area where used

[edit]

This spelling looks very peculiar to me without the double 'pp'. At first sight I would pronounce it "hick-ooped". I'm sure it's standard in some variant of English or geographic region, but the entry should specify the dialect or area. A simple note like "Principally US" or "New England" would suffice.
