Are we sure it's not related to the Asian (from whence Native Americans descend) term for sweet smelling rice? ("homilee"). (Laotian, Mon Chinese and other dialects). This theory seems particularly plausible given the interchangeability of "l", "r" and "n" in some Asian languages. --Proaktivity (talk) 11:44, 1 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
