insalata[edit]

The reason this word means "salad" in Italian is that Italians typically wash their salad greens in a big bowl or pot of Salted water, which helps to sanitize the greens, (salt will kill bacteria) and also helps to give extra flavor to the greens. I have spent time living with my Italian relatives and they always washed their green in salted water--hence, "insalata" 2603:8081:7400:4360:7D24:817E:61B2:BB31 18:38, 11 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
