Relative directions and portmanteaus[edit]

Firstly, if we substitute the cardinals north/south and east/west with the relative front/back and left/right then would these also be intercardinals?

I'd also like to know if there are any evidence of portmanteaus made to cut down all of these to single syllable terms. For example

I reach a snag with the 2nd relative though due to overlap with existing.

These would be valuable in describing octagons or hexagons.
