Catalan Translation[edit]

Mglovesfun: I don't understand, why have you deleted my translation into Catalan. I hope there is an explanation. --Osarbu 15:14, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You essentially just wrote a sentence meaning the same thing. When there's no translation, we tend not to put one. I was going to leave it, then you destroyed your own formatting. Also, if the noun is feminine plural, why is the verb form in the masculine plural? Mglovesfun (talk) 15:39, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, in this case there is no direct translation. Actually I was just searching the meaning of the word kith in the Wiktionary. I saw that only the translation into Russian was available and after I understood the meaning I wanted to add a near translation for Catalan. In Catalan the word coneguts, which is the plural form of conegut (nominalisation of the adjective or past participle form of the verb conèixer) have a quite similar meaning to kith, but not exactly the same. That's why I chose the phrase (not a sentence) amistats i parentela which is the corresponding translation for friends and acquaintances (friends=amistats [amistat[1] means not only friendship but also friend, it is commonly used as a synonym for amic]; and=i; acquaintances=parentela [parentela[2] is a collective noun, and that is the reason why it is in the singular form and not in the plural form like acquaintances, although also parents could be used in this case]), but I also left the translation coneguts as an example of a single word which in some contexts means nearly the same.
I hope it is now more clear.
