Koumiss and stronger drinks[edit]

The translations given here seem problematic. The alcoholic content of koumiss or airag (айраг or цэгээ in Mongolian) is only around 2%. It's a white liquid lightly fermented from mare's milk. See, for example, https://www.mongolfood.info/en/recipes/airag.html

马奶酒 (Chinese) is a clear liquid with an alcohol content of 18-48% (see https://zhidao.baidu.com/question/680614620548206852.html). It's known in Mongolian as нэрмэл архи.

The two are quite separate drinks. You'd have to drink a lot of koumiss to get drunk. On the other hand, нэрмэл архи or 马奶酒 will get you drunk quickly.

The translation equivalents here seem to be based on confusion between the two drinks. Bathrobe (talk) 00:38, 11 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
