línea vs. fila

[edit]

I am concurrently with this talk message adding # queue {{q|British}}, line {{q|US}} {{synonym of|es|fila}} to the Spanish noun. I have observed this usage at two different Central American businesses in San Francisco, one on a sign telling people where the line/queue is, and once when I asked another customer in my beginner Spanish if they were at the end of the "linéa" (accent added for clarity) and they corrected me to "línea" and not to "fila." I'm guessing that since this entry has been around for years and nobody has added this sense that it is not universal, so it may need a geographic note.
