A more promising search: google books:"life is not all beer and skittles", google groups:"life is not all beer and skittles", “life is not all beer and skittles”, in OneLook Dictionary Search., with "is" instead of "'s" and beer and skittles swapped. The Google books search finds 73 hits after I press "Next" several times, many of which are mentions rather than uses.
