lightening versus lightning[edit]
I think that lightening is the "British" spelling, so it is not misspelled as noted in the current definition. Any comments? — This unsigned comment was added by IQ125 (talk • contribs).

- Agreed. The word "lightening" is as defined in the entry. It's a different word. When it is used in place of "lightning" this happens either because people misunderstand the meaning (for instance they think "lightning talks" are something to do with getting lighter), or because they don't know the correct spelling of lightning, which is spelt the same in both British and US English. (For context: I am British).

Lighting[edit]
In the Lancashire dialect song 'Awterations' by the Houghton Weavers, they use 'lightening', pronounced 'leetnin', to mean 'lighting'[1]. --Overlordnat1 (talk) 15:32, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
