I always thought of malshapen as more of misshapen, but more of as created or formed with hostility toward the created.

Yes, in English words starting with "mal-" are often derived from malicious, rather than various roots meaning simply "bad". Cf. malware. I don't know about this word though. Robert Ullmann 18:16, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
