"Man Alive" is an exclamation dated back to 1600's Canada. It was used when search parties would look through the snow to find their brethren. When a lost party member was discovered, "Man Alive" was shouted to alert the others in the search party. Being that this is a joyful exclamation, it progressed to use in other excitable moments in society.
