# Talk:median

# clarity[edit]

this is entirely unclear. at least the mathematical definition. this is from the wikipedia:

- In probability theory and statistics, the
**median**of a sample or a population is a number that separates the lowest-value half and the highest-value half.

I much prefer this definition, and may change it unless somebody objects. Avriette 23:57, 12 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I entirely agree and will proceed to change itAlfonsedode (talk) 16:59, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

## Another definition[edit]

Isn't the median also the open space (usually grassy) which separates halves of a major highway in the US? --Cromwellt|Talk|Contribs 23:33, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

- Yes, that's correct. I've added it. Avriette 21:03, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
