Just doing my part to promote accuracy. People often say "monotonically increasing" when in fact they mean "strictly increasing" - as in the definition that I fixed. The misunderstanding is widespread.

Hmm, even Wolfram MathWorld has this misunderstanding; see http://mathworld.wolfram.com/MonotoneIncreasing.html. It defines monotone increasing to be a synonym for strictly increasing. TimMann (talk) 00:14, 5 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
