It seems to me that definition 3 is just one example of how the essence of definition 2 has expanded to cover other things besides actual currency. It seems to me the term can be used to refer to any measurement/grading system that may be considered old-fashioned, for instance the Fahrenheit temperature scale, or the ECF grading system used until 2020. I've a feeling I've seen the latter in actual use.

The Collins definition (albeit as "in old money") is "according to the old system". While the usage examples just below the definition are both of the imperial system of units, the quotations imply that the phrase has an even broader meaning. — Smjg (talk) 09:31, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
