figurative "alive" sense?[edit]
In at least two Language Log posts (1, 2), Arnold Zwicky uses "on the hoof" seemingly with a sense like in the wild. Another usage on the American Dialect Society mailing list here. Something to keep an eye on - maybe worth adding as a separate sense if further attestations turn up. Colin M (talk) 00:09, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
