Modern usage
[edit]Two out of three citations given for the "translate" meaning are from more than a century ago, and the one from 2006 doesn't seem to be an organic use of it as an English word, but instead an intentional calquing from German for (humorous?) effect. Perhaps the sense should be considered archaic? I can certainly say that as a native English speaker, I have never seen this word used in English except when I was deliberately mistranslating Swedish (I had no idea "overset" was a real English word at all). - I would consider this very rare. In fact the OED does not record this sense at all, and they revised this word recently for the 3rd edition. Ƿidsiþ 05:20, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
