Slang

I've added a definition, "homosexual" which has been used for perhaps a century but needs sources. I was reminded of this when watching an old TV show, the Perry Mason episode "The Case of the Silent Partner." A man in the florist business calls at Mason's office, and Paul Drake (William Hopper) asks, "I wonder what the petunia king wants?" Mason (Raymond Burr) fixes him with a stare. This is evidently an in-joke, since Burr's homosexuality wasn't widely known. I am fairly sure I have encountered the word used in this way in writings either by Raymond Chandler or Dashiell Hammett. There is also a movie, "Petunia," about a Petunia family, with a gay person as the main character. Urban dictionary also recognizes this use. Wastrel Way (talk) 20:45, 10 March 2023 (UTC) Eric
