Via Old French, Middle French prame[edit]
Why so? Surely just a borrowing from Middle French prasine, from Latin (etc.) but not at all from prame. Renard Migrant (talk) 15:43, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
- Probably true for the specific form ‘prasine’, but there were many forms in Middle French and early English citations reflect this – you find ‘prame’, ‘prasme’, ‘prasne’ etc., so the word in all its variants comes from the whole melange of MF and Anglo-Norman forms. Unfortunately without many citations it's hard to show this in our entry. Ƿidsiþ 10:21, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
