Etymology[edit]

It is claimed in some wikipedia articles that "rondavel" is derived from "round hovel", or its equivalent in another language. In A Transvaal tragedy, Evening Post, Volume LXXVII, 2 June 1909, Page 11 the spelling is "rondhavel", suggesting that the word "hovel" may be involved. "Rond" is indeed Afrikaans for "round", but "hovel" doesn't have a similar equivalent in Afrikaans or Dutch, as far as I can determine. Nonetheless, the above claim seems reasonable.
